If you are motivated to but a new boat cause it's time and you are looking for a reason.. that could be one.

However if the real concern is just ability to deal with the loads I would suggest always heading out with the main pre reefed one more than you would have in the past. i.e. if you would normally go out with a full main - go out with a single reef; if normally head out with a single head out with a double. this way you are not overpowered when you are starting. it's easy to shake a reef out if you want more especially with a power halyard winch.

we used to do that on our 47 all the time.
