Same same. Always worked nicely for me.
Just run the line through the D ring.
Buy ball-bearing blocks and attach them to the D-rings. Run your lines through them and your systems will work better.

I use a rams horn
Have your sailmaker add a velcro closed....
You can get hooks that go where that awful steel bolt is.... (nm)
Ha.. That's just the next thing I was thinking.
