We returned to Florida after 3 years in the Eastern Caribbean. (pic)

While cruising we met a couple on a large boat that had all the lines leading back to the cockpit to an electric winch. Steve (the captain) said he thought he'd one day die at the mast in bad weather and designed it. We liked it so much we did almost the same thing.

I hired a rigging company in Ft. Lauderdale (no one who posts here) and didn't agree with what they wanted to do so I hired a local good rigger to work with me on designing the system and make some recommendations. He'd show up every couple of days and see my progress and make some suggestions. One of the best suggestions was to put the winch buttons near your foot so you can use both hands to work with the lines.

It turned out great. I'm amazed that everything works.

The photo below was taken after finishing. 6 months later I decided that the manual self tailing Barient winch that was there before should be put back. I had it re-chromed and installed it to the left of the Antal electric new one in the photo. Now, with 2 winches one manual and one electric it's really a good system. The second winch was needed with all the lines.
