... the boatyard south of town ? I went over to check out their travel lift last year, a friend stored his boat there on the hard over the summer of '08. I don't think he'd do it again, his experience was fine, they are very nice folks over there, but me tinks a bit sort on cash these days and who isn't ? Anyway, the travel lift dock looked like one more rotten board or rusty spike and the whole shittery will come crashing down ... very scary ! Hopefully it wouldn't be my boat in the slings when that happens, which it will. Potentially worse, what's going to happen to all the boats on the hard when it does, I don't think there will be any way for them to get back in the water until a new lift arrives and the docks are re-built ... and in the Bahamas, who knows when that would happen ! There are moorings there, don't know what the policy is, but that might be a good alternative, with protection, but no one around to look after your boat.
You know Bahamas Houseboats sold all their house boats to private people and are no longer in business ? I don't know about his moorings at Kidd's Cove, but that's an idea. I see what looks like several shallow draft vessels in there a lot and they look like transients, I might be a bit concerned about theft so close to town, but then again, I've not ever heard of problems for cruisers in G'town.
Another suggestion would be to set your own mooring in Red Shanks, this is the ideal hurricane hole in the Georgetown area I think. It has perfect protection. You might have to get there early, lots of cruisers set up shop here for the winter, it's kind of like they think they own the real estate, but if you can set a screw in there, it would be a good place, and there would be ample opportunity of someone else watching over your boat while away.
As we said the no brainer spot is a mooring in one of the Holes, lots of activity, lots of folks willing to look after your boat and great protection. And since Larry won't be around, he won't be bothered by the mosquitos. If Larry is serious about this plan, I'd call right now and snag one for the winter, regardless of price.
Cheers, John
