Sometimes you lose even when trying (pic)

We look behind us all the time - it's part of our navigation habits. But the other day, I glanced behind, saw a trawler approaching, waited for it to get close and faced rearward to talk to it on the radio and negotiate a pass. Not another boat in sight for the long length of the waterway behind it. Turned forward to cut the throttle and wave as the trawler passed. Just as I was reaching for the throttle to resume speed, one of those 50-60' go fast boats that look like a european puffer fish went zooming past both of us at 30+kts and quickly disappeared around the next bend 1-2 miles ahead.

Never saw it coming and barely saw it pass.
