Did my lowers 2 years ago.

Had one let go, so I had to! Lifeline that failed was 1/8 wire, 3/16 over the vinyl. Replaced with 3/16" 7x7, 316 alloy using the swageless fittings (the ones without the internal cones). I would have gone bigger, but the bushed holes in my stanchions would only fit 3/16".

Only problem I've noticed is with brown stains on the fwd end of the aft turnbuckles and on the deck right under the turnbuckles. I suspect some sort of forming oil wicking out of the wire but can't be sure.

Upper lifelines are fairly new, so I'm not anxious to replace them. I think they're 3/16" wire, 1/4" over the vinyl. When I do replace, I'll probably use 9/32" 1x19 - same as my standing rigging. Consider it as storage for spare rigging wire and swageless fittings!
