If your stanchions have guides (i.e., the holes are lined through the stanchion)
I used 2" pieces of reinforced tubing from Lowes that fit snugly in the stanchion holes (nm)
Did my lowers 2 years ago.

I agree -- think egg slicer anaology... Synthetic might be better
Uppers I use Amsteel, lowers use bare wire. (nm)
Same here. I just replaced mine with new vinyl coated
People..you have to PERFORM MAINTENANCE..coated/uncoated
