On our last boat, used 1/4" 1x19 wire with Norseman terminals. Got the wire on a rerig job for free. Sailed many many 1,000s of miles without a problem. The secret is getting wire that's large enough diameter so that it doesn't cut you up and not using 7x19 or other wire with small diameter strands. We did the lifelines going on 35 years ago and they are still going strong after close to a 100,000 and 3 owners.
