The antenna is proximate to the waterproof control box. Then the processing occurs and (unlike the USB antennas) the signal is converted to one similar to an Ethernet connection. For about 200' there is no loss of any materiality. If you go with a USB connection, you're limited to 15-20' before you start to get problems.
