The snatch block advice is standard from ATN, who know thier business
We run our downhaul thorugh at largish smooth SS shackle on the rail, (an ordinary snatch block would do) then to a halyard winch.
Thus, we pull down with a winch, so no chance of getting lifted off the deck. Of course, we have to avoid pulling too hard.
Our experience is limited, but has been trouble free, including dropping out 2400 sq ft symmetrical kite in 22 knots wind in mid Atlantic.
Any comment on our technique would be welcome. It is so easy and simple that I do not know why I have not seen it discussed previously.
Are there some hidden dangers that we do not forsee?
