... maybe they cleaned it up, aren't there a bunch of junk piles around that look (and smell) like a dump ? and the dogs ... they look nasty. there used to be a chain across the entrance, I've seen it there and I've also seen it not there. We once rode a Front out in front of Musha, there is all around protection there believe it or not because it dries to the west, not from the wind necessarily but the chop, we were tucked in right under the shoal/bar about where the anchor is on the Explorer Chart, it was blowing 25, it wasn't that bad, but I wouldn't say it was pleasant. Also in that area we rode out a Front tucked in by the dock at Little Darby, it was fine. There was another boat anchored just south past the narrow opening between the Darby's, that looked very nice, but I'm not sure enough depth for me. You can call Steve who is the caretaker at Darby and he will let you roam the islands if you ask first, and even tour you to the old run-down mistress mansion on the big island ... what was that guy thinking who built that castle ? Where are these moorings around Staniel ... Thunderball ... I don't like it over there with the current, boats are always facing different directions ? I don't know what it is, but every time I go near Cpe Santa Maria, the wind dies and the current spins the boat around, it's funky there, I generally turn on the engine for an hour or so to get out of there. I have been to Little Harbour, but only by car, and we hiked in. It was pretty cool, there were a few small fishing boats in there on the south end I think, so somebody is using it. I had always wanted to check it out, and would love to get in there by boat some day, so let me know what it's like ! I bet it's pretty cool and I bet there are fish to spear around there. But I think you had better get out of there before the easterlies build. I have also always wanted to anchor at the very SW tip of Long, just north of South Point, that beach goes for miles, it is stunning, we've been there by car and gone by in the boat, but have not yet spent the night ... watch out for the fish moorings if you go by at night. Not sure what is going on, but since I left end of January, seems like there is a Front every 2-3 days, WOW. Unusually warm, mild and not much snow in Idaho this winter, it was 50 yesterday, everybody was dying from the heat, sweating my ass off on the chairlift, that's about 30 degrees warmer than normal. We fly into GT on the 24th, ASOLARE is in Hole #3, and will probably bolt for C&A, then back to GT for Family Island April 20-24, which is fun ... it's a little quieter end of April, most the Canadian boats have left for north, and I usually get myself on a C Class boat for the morning races and an A boat for the afternoon. If you get a chance, check out Dollar Harbour on the GT side of LI if you go back to Exuma that way, a sweet anchorage and a great place to ride out a front. You can even dinghy through the mangroves over to Max's for lunch if you're up for that. Have fun, cheers, John
