Just a couple of years ago, Raymarine stopped supporting the RL series, in favor of the new C series and followed by the E series. Of course, this happened right after I had upgraded to 2 RL MFD's, mounted in the pilothouse and the cockpit since I have dual steering. Eventually, about 2 years ago, I upgraded again and installed an E120 and E80 plotter. Fast forward to now. I am tempted to get one of the new E widescreen series displays but am not really interested in replacing both displays again, already (unless, you make me a great offer ... ...). So I inquired with Raymarine about interfacing the "Classic" E with the new widescreens. Their response is:
QUOTE
The E-Series Classic MFDs and C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs may be interfaced via standard SeaTalk, not SeaTalkng, to support communication of alphanumeric instrument, GPS, and navigational data between these MFDs. However, graphical data (ex. cartography, radar, fishfinder, and weather) cannot be shared between these products. As Raymarine's E-Series Classic MFDs are highly regarded in the recreational marine electronics industry and are currently experiencing increased demand (Raymarine is no longer producing them), it is generally recommended that customers faced with such upgrade situations consider private sale of the Classic MFDs via an Internet auction site (ex. ebay, Craigs List, etc.) where one may well find that it may be sold for a fair portion of its original purchase price. A pair of E-Series Widescreen MFDs or pair of C-Series Widescreen MFDs would then be interfaced to the same SeaTalkhs network in much the same way that a pair of E-Series Classic MFDs would be. This would permit sharing of all data, except camera video, between these MFDs.
