Actually, for the trip John is proposing, the relevant Maptech chartbooks - plus the larger offshore charts like Hatteras to Straits of Florida, and Cape Sable to Hatteras, should be the ONLY thing he needs... For an offshore trip up the coast, the C-Map charts would seem to be a waste of money, if he's not planning on doing any coastal cruising in the areas south of New England...

How quickly we forget, that electronic charts are only in the "nice to have" category, and nothing more... (grin) Paper is still the only essential, and your ability to fix your position upon it still the real deal...
