I haven't cruised much, but in our five months of coastal nav last year up to Alaska, I liked the simplicity of our

little chart plotter with CMAP chip. Thought often about using a laptop (PC or Mac), but seemed overly complicated. The plotter screen is certainly smaller, but the unit itself is really, really simple to use. (That said, we had Nobeltec on the PC as a backup, but never used it...in any case, we never got around to figuring out how to hook it up to a GPS, so it would only have been used as visual reference, like a paper chart.) I'm not a Luddite, but I do like to keep some things simple...PC...Mac...would prefer not to use either one for nav. I may change, but for now...

(I somehow picked up a computer virus/trojan of some sort a few a days ago, first time it's ever happened, which is causing havoc on my machine...so I'm having a bit of an anti-computer moment Still, the idea of PC/Mac navigation sounds like it would be a bit too prone to troubleshooting technical issues...)
