misinformed nonsense. (as are those promoting "organic" food. Diesel fuel is 100% organic, but I do not drink it)
I have yet to see a legal defintion of "chemical", yet sailors, and many others, have to pay for a range of allegedly environmental protection rules aggainst "chemicals" that have no useful impact.
The frustrating thisn is that on the broad scale, the EPA and related regulations haveresulted in dramatically cleaner waters than we had 40 years ago, yet the public is hoodwinked into believing that we are all polluters.
One problem is that a high proportion fo the environmental regulatory staff were recruited in the 1970s, and are now retired, with a young bunch taking over who have never seen real pollution.
Some issues remain, including automobiles in cities, but I cannot think of any significant pollution by sailors in North America today.
