It has been crazy. We walked in to the brokers Saturday morning, handed him the photo and equipment list for the powerboat and went out to his lot. 15 minutes later he was rapping on the side of the boat we were in, had a very weird look. There was a young family that had stopped into the office unannounced, from Kentucky, to look at one of his boats. It was sold the previous day, so he handed them our paper, said "I have this one?", they were actually on their way to Canada to buy the same boat for more money. He showed it, within an hour they had made their decision and it was sold!
We have since been looking at his inventory which has been selling almost as fast as we can discuss the boats. Unfortunately, many of the boats around here continue to be offered by elderly owners that stopped taking care of them a few (or more) years ago, they are total garbage. 6 boats we were considering in Cleveland were also sold.
So, we have reevaluated our needs and made an offer on a Jeanneau Fantasia 27 this afternoon. It is smaller than we were originally thinking about, however it seems to be a stout boat with everything we were looking for with a fat beam for the size. My biggest issue was not the size, but the design. A "proper sailboat" is Tom Young's.......looks like sailboat and I'm sure smells like a sailboat down below. The C&C Redwing 30 the admiral fell in love with was a similar yachty look with the propr overhangs. It was cast aside when the broker discussed the sailing characteristics of the boats of that vintage, based on Tom's photos I suspect his boat also sails with the rail in the water on a regular basis. That was enough for the admiral to change her mind. One older member here, mister DBM, has been trying his best to coach us in the right direction........this wasn't it. I guess we will see how this all shakes out.
There are still logistics to deal with to get the powerboat to Kentucky, but the new owners seem to be up for the task.
