Are you planning to lower the stay
yes - on the deck
Rent a slip and that way you can lay it out on the dock
Or maybe walk it ashore if you can find a grassy area to work on it
I've gone up on an external halyard block only to find the shackle pin holding on to one half of the shackle..

I believe Dave's questions were meant for Rob...
I tied off to the masthead and pinned the shackle. Stranger things have happened, like this one time...
