The Admiral purchased a set of cheap led walkway lights with solar chargers (the kind you buy at lowes) that she puts around the boat at deck level. One at the bow, one on each side of the mast and one at the stern. When we're on passage she puts them below for night lighting.
We think it's better to have them at deck level. If some fool is running around the anchorage in a small boat it's easier to see and with all the lights from bow to stern no one will likely run into her. During the day they recharge themselves right where they are.
When we're on shore and return to the boat it's easy to spot as it looks like a Christmas tree.
You could get a couple of blue ones to make the boat distinctive if you want.
besides, a strobe is illegal use as an anchor light.
