Jon is correct ... Which is why when we furl our big headsail ...

... we'll take, at the most, half of it in from the cockpit, then one person will walk to the foredeck, take both sheets in hand, hold them together, tension and position them so the leech wraps nice & tight, while the other person tends to the furling line. We never take it all the way in from the cockpit. And contrary to what most others do, we will start gathering the furling line, quickly turn the boat dead into the wind, and pretty fast do the rest. Most others will fall off and then furl the sail. We usually will take 3-4 wraps, if we are leaving the boat for any time or there is a blow, quite a few more.
