How about simply running a spare halyard around the furled sail?

I have a halyard for instance for the chute and another for a topping lift, both are forward, why not wrap those around a furled sail to prevent unwrapping if a blow is expected? These halyards originate above the sail and would spiral nicely from the head to the foot of the sail.

Frankly I suspect that folks are just not going down to their boats prior to inclement weather, and are just expecting the boats to tend to themselves.
