Hi Steve,
I'm sure the statistics would still indicate that I'd be far safer cruising in Houduras or Guatemala this winter than staying home and doing a daily commute on the Garden State Parkway, for example... And, if I hadn't been there already, I'd probably still consider going to the Bay Islands, not sure an event like this one would necessarily deter me...
My point was simply that having been there once, I'll probably not choose to go back... I just never felt entirely at ease or comfortable there, is all... With so many other destinations to choose from where one can feel more relaxed, and stuff like dinghy security is not such a constant concern, I'd prefer to spend my time there. Belize, on the other hand, I'd go back there in a heartbeat, I just got a much better vibe there overall...
Like you, I spent a fair amount of time in my younger days traveling to some riskier parts of the world, but these days I'm more inclined to confine my risk to simply sailing a small boat to the places I'd like to see... Just the simple act of leaving my boat at anchor unattended while I go off exploring ashore is all the risk "buzz" I need anymore, factoring in a heavy dose of concern regarding security/theft prevention etc removes a lot of the pleasure for me, and I begin to question what I'm doing there to begin with...
best regards,
Jon
