Dinghy Safety

Last year we started separating our inflatable and our outboard every evening. The Tohatsu 8 went back on the rail and the AB 9' aluminum RIB got hung on the hip.
Prior to that we'd always just hang the dinghy with the outboard on the hip.

Thieves don't want inflatables, they want the outboard. You can replace an outboard anywhere. But inflatables are not easily replaced. Losing an outboard ruins your day/week and requires coming in from the atolls to purchase a new one. Losing an inflatable means no more zippy trips to the outer reef to snorkel & spearfish, potentially ruining our winter cruise!

When we were outfitting the boat, the kayaks were our backup to the inflatable. Since we're commuter cruisers, only 6 months at a time, we don't want systems to cause us to lose a season, so we planned backups for every important system aboard. So far, knock on teak, it's worked. But that's also why we're temporarily back in FL for a "mini-refit"!
