I have with mixed results. I use a Coleman catalytic one and it did a nice job of knocking the chill off. I do not leave it on unattended or when we are sleeping. When it isn't in use it goes on deck as a safety thing. To me the biggest drawback is moisture, and they produce a lot of it and we had large drops form on the overhead and clothing became damp. I still take it along, but we try to limit its use as much as possible. We will add layers of clothing before we light it off.
If I were to venture into real chilly areas, I would go with some source of fixed heat rather than catalytic.
