OK, here's the sort of insert I've made...

Uh-oh, one step closer to a full cockpit enclosure, I guess... (grin)
Can only be in place on the weather side, my genoa sheet leads through that space when under sail... Of course, it's really not necessary on the leeward side, anyway...
