Even though they extended up well forward on the cabin, spray would find it's way down that slot. On our present boat, if going well to windward in some sea, spray goes right over the dodger so they wouldn't be much good for that spray.

As you say though, they would be a nice thing in the fall here to block more wind while getting all the sun on a cool October day. Nice work on those.
