For coastwise all I carry are your normal piloting tools and charts. If I'm going offshore I do take my 19th Century GPS and publications. It is good practice and backup. It also makes a "good conversation starter", especially going through airport security. I'm not to concerned with DOD and GPS, I'm more concerned with our wonderful politicians and companies like LightSquared who want to encroach on the GPS spectrum.

To back up my 19th Century system I have several Garmins including an old GPS12.
