I too like the waterfront in Vineyard Haven. Benjamin and Gannon yard alone is worth the stop.

And it's an interesting harbor to row and see the sights. We've anchored outside, it's a little exposed. Heck, outside of Tashmoo and 2 moorings in Menemsha, the whole damn island is exposed. They could benefit from just a mile of our craggy coastline here in Maine.

Ours kids enjoyed that beach you mention for hours one visit.

Let's face it, the masses descend on VH via the ferries(I've been that route in the past, more challenging than by sailboat I recall). That's the island terminal, so to speak. It's touristy but still fun. The buses out of there can be a hoot depending on who's packed in with you. We've seen real theatre inside those buses.

I find the difference in visiting places like that on your own boat compared to the mass transit route, amazing.
