back winded main
In Response To: almost perfect ()

With a big Genny on a furler, when the wind picks up all you can do is try to find the best compromise between bringing the traveler up to get rid of the back wind and causing too much heel. I have found on my boat, that when going upwind in a blow like we had when that picture was taken, it is fastest to let the main ride along and get almost all of the driving force from the Genny.

Ideally you would reef, but this is not usually done on a fairly short upwind leg especially when you have a long downwind leg coming up.
