We do it with the barberhauler, but you can pole it out. It helps on a close beat too, even if you can move it out just a little. The bigger the overlap, the less able you are to point high. I had a sailmaker out on my boat to measure for a #1 genoa, and as I recall he had some kind of formula for calculating the ideal sheeting point: Basically the longer the distance from tack to sheeting point -- the further out from the centerline. (Unfortunately the ratio didn't stick clearly in my head but I think it might have been the distance from centerline should be 15% of the distance from tack to sheet point.)
