Floating docks are pretty much the standard around here. There are moorings, but few and far between. The bow thruster idea is just not practical for a 27 footer. I'd use sweeps first if it came down to it.

The main problem is the way the boat walks way way before it gets way on. Without any water flow over the rudder, there is no steerage, and the walk really dominates. I have to really keep an eye on the bow sprit lest I "rake" across a neighbor's boat.
