I love these photos Westie. I agee, the Gondola looks sort over done,

but the basic design and propulsion of the boats evolved to the canals, daily life and commerce in Venice, over centuries, I think.

I remember seeing the working gondolas still in use. They're amazingly nimble in the tight quarters and have great speed with little effort from the gondolier.

High water is a way of life in Venice, and always has been by the looks. They take it in stride, eh?
