Probably the lack of use as you say but the last few weeks of October seem particularly fertile on my keel.

I too can sometimes just turn the shaft through the manhole in my cockpit. If that doesn't work, some sail adjusting to bring it onto the other tack looses the warp on the mouse ear(good description). I tend to agree, the sinking line should be a plus, I think.
