It's been tested, I'm sorry to say, and it worked well. The key to this is to keep it free from hard growth so the edges are still sharp.

I use white Pettit Vivid on my prop and shaft, including the Shaft Shark. (I don't paint the tips or sharpened edges though, so a sharp edge is exposed). It helps reduce growth but it's not 100% effective.
