For 150 years some of those old buildings at Browns have been servicing the residents on North Haven. Read some of the history in this article, interesting past.
I get a kick out of watching the Brown Ferry from North Haven to Vinalhaven(I've anchored off Vinalhaven dinghy dock for the night, good spot). Call, wave, jump up and down, scream,... Foy Brown will be there in a minute and pick you up, all day long.
They supply gas to the cars on the island and have a long history servicing the islanders. They're also the water connection for much of the lobsterboat fleet over there(and are recvieving a rehab grant for that reason).
They ain't there for you yachties! Here's Foys ferry boat.
