Yup hard to put an instrument pod in the middle of an empty deck.

Of course the flip side is that with a tiller, you move it out of the way and you have loads of space in the cockpit... which is why they are now inventing such things as swing-away wheels and folding wheels... those wheels and pedestals just are in the way.

Personally I have instruments on the cabin wall visible from the cockpit and a radar on a swing arm which allows viewing either in the cockpit or at the nav station... and with a tiller, I have a big empty cockpit available for cocktails.

I just have to work out a table arrangement... I saw a nice idea in GOB.
