If you've never owned a hard dinghy, it would be hard to imagine a difference.

But there is a difference especially if the hard dinghy is a good design. Inflatables are well designed too, but to totally different parameters. I've always said if I were to be a "serious" cruiser, I'd get one, I think.... But I wouldn't like the extra drag one of similar size to my 9'6" dinghy would induce, especially in light air.
