Without any mandatory service in any way, new generations have nothing invested in the country. With a 2 year compulsory service I think the U.S. would be headed in a better direction.

Not necessarily in the military but 2 years of your life invested in the country you live in. I think doing away with compulsory service was not good. It should have been revamped instead of doing away with it.
