Character is shaped well before the age of military service. I think you're off base if you think the military or any other service creates good people. I've seen many people f*cked up by the military. There may be many who benefit from it but the foundation was prepared well before they entered service.
Anyone who thinks putting young people in a situation where they must kill others is a cruel uncaring person. I've known too many who struggled their whole lives with their experience in Viet Nam.
I think the draft should be reinstated with EVERY adult person between 21 and 65 elgible. Then we'll see how important it is to go fight a war somewhere. It's way too easy to decide that someone else must do it.
