In Response To: Once in a while the thought of having a pilot house appeals ()

in fact, I don't even own serious foul weather gear these days. I don't like to do much in the rain, and that includes sailing. So a pilot house might be nice if in fact it gave you the protection and you could still sail the boat. Those two points tend to conflict in practice sailing but are no problem on a motorboat.
