i just did the whole process in the water

I replaced the prop, shaft, coupling, and the shaft packing in the water. It was a fixed blade though so was relatively easy.

Had someone helping me. I had a huge problem with the coupler coming undone on our last trip to the keys. I needed to get the whole shebang out to measure it. We used tapered plugs in the shaft log. I took the whole thing to a prop shop and spent a few hours to get them to measure everything. Then I stuck the shaft back in the boat and tightened the stuffing box. It stayed like that until the shaft was faced and fit to the coupler.

used a prop puller I borrowed from the prop shop. Just get it tight and beat on it a bit with something soft and keep tightening. It will come off.
