BUT, I know one couple who were outfitting in Alaska. They had a list but time was running short, so they decided rather than delay another year to finish, they would work the way down the coast and finish items as they went. They got to San Francisco and decided that they did not need to finish the list just then, they could wait till San Diego..... on and on and in Australia they finally shipped the boat back to the USA without ever finishing the list!
Our house bank is 3 Group 31 AGM for about 300 Amp (technically 315 Ah). For our starting we have one group 31 AGM. I would have gone with a group 27, but got a deal on the 4 batteries at one time. All in all, it worked very well for all of our needs. Could we have used more? SURE, but there is no more room and it would just be more of a hassle. I don't think the total capacity of the bank is critical, as long as it will take care of your needs for apx. 48 hours without needing a charge. By then you can start the engine if needed.
Glad you got that loose connection cleared up.
One thing that I would suggest, get a can of corrosion prevention spray and as you do each install/mod/repare/Etc, give it a quick spray. I didn't do that at first and after we were out for about 2 years I noticed that most of our terminal blocks, even in dry area, were showing signs of corrosion. Now, after the spray, it all stays better connected and I am not seeing any further degrading of the circuits.
By the way, I know it's way early, but are you planning on attending Pacific Sail Expo up in Oakland? We plan to be there and may be we can meet up.
