Be careful on the East coast. If it has a motor, it needs to be licensed (registered). If you are cruising through Florida and drop it in the water, it needs to have a state registration on it. If not, they'll make you register it in Florida. North Carolina is just about as bad. Then you can also get into the personal property tax issue.
