What I have decided.....
In Response To: Paperwork Cha-Cha rant.... ()

FIRST, THANKS for all the info!!! It has helped greatly.

I WAS going to reg it here in Az. I thought that would be simple. I went through all the paperwork and went back to the "Game and Fish" office, got through all the questions (In state reg $20.00 out of state $100.00). Then she informed me that due to some abnormality in the hull number I had to bring the dink in for an inspection???? SOoooo I gathered up all of my paperwork, and decided NOT to reg in Az. By the way, Az. does NOT supply a title.

Next, I looked up the Calif. DMV info. (for my 8 foot Portaboat)......
* What to Register
Sail-powered vessels* longer than eight feet.
Powerboats.
Commercial vessels that weigh at least five tons, or are at least 30 feet long, must be registered with the U.S. Coast Guard.

* What Not to Register
Any vessel propelled by oars or paddles alone.
Surfboards or sailboards.
A ship's lifeboat (does not include dinghies).
Vessels currently registered in another state (if used primarily outside California).
Vessels brought into California for racing.

AND

* Requirements and Procedures
If you bring a vessel into California and plan on primarily using it here, you must register it first. Do so within 120 days of your arrival.

************
If I only row it does NOT need to be reg. And, if I am stopped, I have 120 days to reg it. We do not plan to be back in the Bay Area that long any way. Next, Rickff let me know that Fla. only charges $12.00.

I will just keep all the paperwork with me, then reg in Fla. when we get there to cruise.

WHAT A CLUSTER %$*$&^ this is, over a small dink.

Once again, THANKS all!!

Greg
