I've wanted better image quality and last year bought a Nikon S9100 thinking that would get me there. No joy.

Is it possible to get sharp images from a point & shoot model without all the fuzz/flare and digital artifacts? I don't want to carry a DSLR -- too much bulk and baggage. If it won't go nicely in a waist pouch or pocket it won't be carried.
