Hmmm, so you find that it doesn't keep water out effectively?
In Response To: Most states... ()

Ugh, I used it for two things (so far) that I am certainly hoping keep water out. Typically the tape is my "go to," but there have been a couple of times tape didn't seem to work as well as the softer caulk, so I used the caulk.

1) Bedding an anchor roller. This had a large/flat bottom surface, and the tape just seemed to "hold it up" too much. It was chilly out too. I only had a helper for an hour or so, so wanted to get it all tightened down then (vs. waiting and slowly snugging over time). Now if I had *known* the caulk was not good, I would have figured out a way to use the tape (warm it, wait to snug it till someone showed up again, etc.).

Maybe I'll remove it and re-bed it (?)

2) Plastic hatch with relatively thin rim stock. Again it was slightly chilly out, and the tape caused the rim of the hatch to hump up in between the fasteners, even when tightening gradually. Yet I had to use a fair bit of tape because the underside of the rim had little "structural" plastic webs that created hollows that needed to be filled. So I went to the caulk. Again, had I known the caulk was inferior, I would have figured out a way to make the tape work. Ugh, now I just have to "wait" for them to leak! (Or re-do them for a third time.)

Oh well, now I know. Thanks for the info! And I retract my recommendation of it.
