True, it's often not undersized wiring that causes excessive heat

I like crimp connections, I just don't think excessive heat is a reason to avoid solder.
MIL-DTL-5015 which is a specification for military circular connectors very often used for power transmission calls up both crimp and solder contacts up to size 0.
