I'd not use just welding cable, I'd use tinned marine grade cable (Ancor, or equal).
Tinned cable is desirable, but VERY expensive

The amp carrying capacity depends on the cross sectional area of copper in the cable..

If your wire gets hot enough to melt 60/40 solder you have way too much current for the wire size

Its often a bad mechanical connection that causes the heat.
True, it's often not undersized wiring that causes excessive heat
Our 2500 watt inverter was connected with Locomotive Cable
