Large capacity electric cable
I'd not use just welding cable, I'd use tinned marine grade cable (Ancor, or equal).
Tinned cable is desirable, but VERY expensive
Then my advice is for you to use the second battery.
When I did my windlass...
Welding cable is...
Thaks for comments and more questions quesiton
I think you'd need some very sensitive equipment
The amp carrying capacity depends on the cross sectional area of copper in the cable..

Wouldn't the engine always be running?
Not necessarily...
Short bursts like that should be a problem with the engine off
I think you meant "should not"....?
Yes, I meant should not..I think faster than I type.
Then the Admiral is right!
Soldering Hi amp wire is a bad idea
If your wire gets hot enough to melt 60/40 solder you have way too much current for the wire size
Agreed...
Its often a bad mechanical connection that causes the heat.
True, it's often not undersized wiring that causes excessive heat
Our 2500 watt inverter was connected with Locomotive Cable
How about a higher voltage motor?
Agree with Tom in WA
My understanding has little to do with the inabililty of solder to handle the load..
