I admit, I never fill-out those cards because they seem like a marketing ploy. But then I keep the "proof of purchase".

It's a lot different than the "Old" Craftsman tool warranty (which I'm not sure still exists): "You break it, we replace it for the lifetime of the tool." You used to walk into a Sears and hand them them the broken screwdriver (usually), and they gave you a new one.
