Todd Dunn set us up with our first Racor during one of my Catalina rescue projects, it worked like a champ for us. As I said, side by side they are very simlar in looks and function, they both have site bowls and the DAHL has a petcock for draining water and for draining the filter to change it. I make it a habit of changing fuel filters, oil and oil filters ever fall. The exception was this last fall when I decided not to change the fuel filter on the Islander. It was the factory filter, small, on the side of the engine. I suspect it does not separate water and fuel and is a filter element only. I also did not use my usual fuel dryer conditioner, instead choosing something new.
The new filter elements I ordered are 30 microns for the primary and whatever a factory Yanmar filter is. The plan is to change the oil and oil filter again on Friday after about 2 hours running and also to change both fuel filters in order to have a benchmark in my log. There is no water in the site bowl, the fuel is a good color pink with the off road dye and no floating gunk.
